Can I get a hip resurfacing here in Kuwait? If not, what about in the UK? What hospitals here in Kuwait have links to other Europeon hospitals on the cutting edge of orthopedics? Thanks in advance. I am in my first year, of a two year contract to teach at UAS. I teach economics, psychology, sociology, world geography and world history. I lost my knee in high school football, and ankles in college and post-college sports; lost my hip in an attempt to stop a violent attack on another individual. The hips has not stated to lose its bone densecity, but the hip joint is partially bone on bone and I am slowing down each day; not less than 100yds. 965 750 4484

Dear D.C., thank you for your note. The largest orthopedic surgery center in Kuwait is the Al-Razi Hospital in the Al-Sabah Medical Area in Shuwaikh. It handles the bulk of orthopedic issues in the country. Private hospitals such as Al-Salam International Hospital have ortho departments but I am not aware of any particular affiliations with foreign centers. We cannot make recommendations on U.K. facilities.
Good luck!

Locally, there is also Dr Waleed Altunaib in “Dar Al-Shifaa” private hospital in Hawalli, a Canadian trained colleague, who is currently a leading lower limb Arthroplasty surgeon in Kuwait.
I hope this, along with Nadeem’s leads, would be of help.

I’m not sure about a register of Psychologists here in Kuwait, but I am on a register (a Chartered Psychologist) (British Psychological Society) and happen to live here in Kuwait.

Scarlet fever in private school in kuwait.shouldnt school inform ministry and parents?
April 10, 2008 at 6:33
Not particularly Um Nasr, they don’t have to (although it would be helpful if they did) report it to other parents. They are certainly not required to report it to the local health registry. Scarlet Fever is a rash disease associated with a common sore throat causing bacteria, and those illnesses are a) not reportable illnesses (to the ministry of health), and b) they don’t cause any more risk of serious complications nor ease of transmission to any other common cause of sore throat related bacterial infection. In other words, it’s a common sore throat bacterial infection that is associated with a rash and should not cause panic among contacts any more than other common sore throat illnesses, having said that, and just in any other form of cold illnesses, the child should ideally stay at home, and they usually do since they are often sicker, to both rest, and to lower the risk of passing it on to other kids, and the sick child does require treatment with a course of antibiotic.

Where can i find a Sports Surgeon cum Orthopaedic doctor, i know al Razi hospital is for orthopaedic, does it also house some sports medicine doctors and surgeons
April 23, 2008 at 14:41
Thank you for your question Adel. You’re totally correct; Al-Razi Hospital is the place to go. I recommend Dr Hamad AL-Harran, a Canadian trained colleague for upper limb sport injuries, and Dr Ali Al-Mukaimi, a senior surgeon for lower limb injuries. Both practice at Al-Razi Hospital.

Does the al-sabah maternity hospital have prenatal check up services?
May 3, 2008 at 12:28
Dear Rieaane,
The Maternity Hospital does have prenatal services. Typical, expecting mothers would need to be referred from primary care clinics. Since limited OB/GYN services are available at some of the local clinics, I would suggest discussing it with your primary care provider first, if you have one that is.
Best of luck.

Dear Lynette,
To my knowledge, the Dasman Center for Research and Treatment of Diabetes lists a single podiatrist on staff in their facility. Please refer to their web site for more information: http://www.dcrtd.org.kw
All the best.
